A Page in History: Cuban Music’s Cultural Influences

Cuban music has an amazing history with genres that brings together African, European and Caribbean influences. There are also fascinating links between the musical developments of the country and political developments – most notably during the Revolutionary period. Professor Juandrea Bates teaches and researches in the field of Latin American history at Winona State University and will discuss the history of Cuban music focusing specifically on the global and political influences shaping Cuban music. You will then be well-versed for Adonis Puentes and the Voice of Cuba Orchestra’s Page Series performance, January 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Thank you to our partner, the Winona County Historical Society, for hosting this event!
